Back-to-Back Point-to-Point Racing – A Busy Weekend for R & J PA Hire
This weekend was another great example of why we love working in the world of point-to-point racing, with two major events taking place back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday. It was a busy couple of days for the R & J PA Hire team, but incredibly rewarding to support two fantastic race meetings and help keep everything running smoothly from a PA and communications point of view.
Saturday – Revesby Races at Revesby Park
Our weekend kicked off on Saturday at Revesby Park under the Midlands Point to Point Association for the Revesby Races, and what a day it turned out to be. After a very wet spell earlier in the week, we were watching the weather closely, but thankfully, the rain finally eased off from Thursday afternoon, just in time for our setup.

We arrived on site to begin installing the PA system, speaker towers, and commentary unit, and it was clear that had the event been held just a day earlier, conditions would have been very different. The ground had started to dry nicely, the skies stayed clear, and we were treated to a genuinely fantastic day of racing.
Our public address system provided clear audio coverage throughout the course, ensuring spectators could easily follow the action. If you’re planning a similar outdoor event, you can find more information about our PA hire services
At the same time, ourtwo-way radionetwork kept organisers, officials, and medical staff in constant communication throughout the day.
From start to finish, everything ran smoothly, and it was a pleasure to be back supporting another well-organised and well-attended race meeting at Revesby. Days like this really highlight the importance of reliable event sound and communications, especially at large outdoor sporting events.
Saturday Night – Pack Down and Reset
Once the final race had finished at Revesby, it was straight into pack-down mode. All of our equipment was carefully loaded back into the vehicles and we made the journey home so we could begin preparing everything again for Sunday’s event at Sheriff Hutton.
That evening was spent recharging the two-way radios, checking batteries, inspecting cables, and making sure all PA and amplifier equipment was fully tested and ready to go again. With two major events on consecutive days, there’s no room for shortcuts – everything has to be reset and checked thoroughly to maintain reliability and performance.
Sunday – Sheriff Hutton Point-to-Point (Rescheduled Event)
Sunday saw us heading over to Sheriff Hutton for the rescheduled point-to-point meeting. Originally planned for the previous weekend, the event had unfortunately been postponed due to the track being frozen, so it was great to see it finally go ahead.
Because we had already completed the full setup the week before the postponement, we were fortunate that most of the infrastructure was already in place. This meant there was no need to reinstall speaker poles or the commentary unit, which saved valuable time early in the morning.
Instead, our focus was on installing the amplifiers, powering up the system, and delivering the two-way radios into the secretary’s marquee so officials and medical teams could remain in constant contact throughout the day. It was a smooth and efficient setup, allowing everything to be ready well ahead of the first race.
Challenging Weather – But Another Great Day
The only downside to Sunday was the weather. After a relatively dry Saturday, rain returned and made conditions a little more challenging. The rain didn’t stop until just before the second-to-last race, and as expected, things became quite muddy underfoot.
Despite that, spirits remained high, and the racing was once again competitive and exciting. Credit has to go to everyone involved for pushing on and making the best of the conditions – from the organisers and volunteers to the jockeys, owners, and spectators.

Supporting the Yorkshire Air Ambulance
Importantly, the entire meeting at Sheriff Hutton was held in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, making it even more special to be part of such a worthwhile cause. We’re always proud to support events that raise funds for vital emergency services, and it was great to see such strong community backing for the day.
A Proud Weekend for R & J PA Hire
Two big point-to-point events across one weekend is no small task, but everything came together perfectly. From PA systems and commentary units to radio communications and on-site technical support, both meetings ran smoothly thanks to careful planning, preparation, and teamwork.
Weekends like this are a great reminder of why we do what we do. Supporting rural sporting events, working alongside dedicated organisers, and helping deliver safe, well-run race meetings is something we take real pride in at R & J PA Hire.
A huge thank you to everyone involved at Revesby Races and Sheriff Hutton Point-to-Point for having us once again. We’re already looking forward to the next race meeting and another busy season ahead.
