PA Hire, Live Commentary and Truck Pulling

The Truckit Show 2026 returned to Driffield Showground on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August 2026, bringing together an impressive collection of working trucks, show vehicles and transport companies for another action-packed weekend in East Yorkshire.

With everything from individual truck displays and company fleets to trade stands, music, family entertainment and the exciting truck-pull arena, there was plenty for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

R & J Public Address Hire was delighted to return for another year, providing the outdoor PA system, commentary facilities and professional sound coverage for the show arena throughout both days.

Outdoor PA Coverage Around the Arena

Clear sound is essential at a busy outdoor vehicle show, particularly when announcements and commentary must compete with the sound of powerful truck engines and a large crowd.

For the 2026 show, R & J PA Hire installed eight speaker poles around the arena, with two speakers mounted on each pole. This provided 16 arena speakers, with additional speakers positioned on top of the commentary unit to strengthen coverage around the main show area.

The distributed system helped deliver commentary, music, results, safety information and public announcements throughout the main arena area.

We also provided professional Sennheiser radio microphones, allowing the commentary and presentation team to work without being restricted by microphone cables. Reliable radio microphones are particularly valuable during vehicle displays, competitions and presentations where commentary needs to remain clear and uninterrupted.

An Unexpected Weekend Behind the Microphone

Our role at Truckit Show 2026 unexpectedly extended beyond supplying and operating the PA equipment.

Unfortunately, the show’s usual commentator was taken ill and could not attend. To help keep the arena programme running, Richard from R & J PA Hire stepped in and provided the live commentary on both Saturday and Sunday.

This involved keeping visitors informed about the arena activities, introducing the participating vehicles and transport companies, running competitions and helping maintain an enjoyable atmosphere throughout the weekend.

Having experience both as an event commentator and a PA system operator meant we could continue supporting the organisers without interrupting the planned arena entertainment.

Five People Versus One Truck!

One of the most entertaining parts of the weekend was a special team truck-pull competition.

Teams of five people were invited into the arena to see how quickly they could pull a full-sized truck from one marked point to another. It was a brilliant test of strength, teamwork and determination—and it certainly gave the crowd something different to cheer about!

Each team was timed over the course, with live commentary keeping spectators informed and encouraging the competitors towards the finish.

After some impressive efforts, the Halder Transport team recorded the quickest time and took the victory. Congratulations to the winning team and a big thank you to everyone who volunteered to take part and helped make the competition such an enjoyable arena attraction.

Celebrating Sunday’s Winners

Sunday included the presentation of the show awards, recognising some of the outstanding trucks and displays that had attended over the weekend.

R & J PA Hire captured photographs of the winners receiving their awards, helping create a lasting record of their success at Truckit Show 2026.

The care and effort put into preparing the vehicles was clear to see. From beautifully maintained working fleets to trucks polished and presented to an exceptional standard, choosing the winners could not have been an easy task.

Congratulations to all the award winners, as well as every driver, owner and company that brought a vehicle to the show.

A View of Truckit Show From the Air

On Saturday morning, we also took the opportunity to capture a selection of aerial photographs using our drone.

The photographs provide a completely different view of Truckit Show, showing the scale of the event, the arena layout and the impressive number of trucks assembled across Driffield Showground.

From ground level, visitors can appreciate the individual details and presentation of each truck. From the air, however, the size of the show and the work involved in bringing everything together becomes even more apparent.
