Arnold Grange Hunter Trial 2026 – Commentary Unit & Radio Hire

Arnold Grange Hunter Trial 2026 – Reliable Commentary Unit & Radio Hire

Sunday 4 October 2026 saw competitors gather at Arnold Grange, Arnold Lane West, East Yorkshire, for the Arnold Grange Hunter Trial 2026 — a full day of cross-country action for riders of different ages and abilities.

R & J PA Hire supported the event by supplying a commentary unit and 25 two-way radios, providing a dedicated commentary space and communications equipment for the organising team.

Held by kind permission of Mr W. Bethell, the Hunter Trial featured a range of classes from 50cm through to 90cm, giving both novice and more experienced combinations the opportunity to take part.

Several of the classes were also Eland Lodge qualifiers for 2027, adding an extra competitive element to the day.

Outdoor equestrian events present their own particular challenges. Competitors, officials and spectators can be spread over a considerable area, while weather conditions can change throughout the day.

For the Arnold Grange Hunter Trial, R & J PA Hire supplied one of our purpose-built commentary units, providing a dedicated, weather-protected position for the event commentary and associated equipment.

A commentary box gives the announcer and event team a central working point from which they can follow proceedings, pass on information and help keep the day’s programme moving.

Our commentary units are regularly used at equestrian events, Point-to-Point meetings, agricultural shows, motorsport events, rallies and other outdoor events where a dedicated commentary position is required.

25 Two-Way Radios Supplied for Event Communications

Alongside the commentary unit, we also supplied 25 two-way radios for use during the Hunter Trial.

At an event covering a large outdoor course, instant communication between different areas can be extremely useful. Unlike relying solely on mobile phones, two-way radios allow members of the event team to communicate immediately at the press of a button.

Radios can be distributed between officials, stewards and other members of the organising team depending on the requirements of each event.

For equestrian and cross-country events in particular, personnel may be positioned some distance apart, so having a reliable radio network helps the team remain connected throughout the day.

All 25 radios were prepared before the event, ready for distribution and use by the organisers.

Cross-Country Classes at Arnold Grange

The Arnold Grange Hunter Trial offered five different classes, providing opportunities for a wide range of riders.

The programme began with a 50cm Nanny & Novice Pairs Class, followed by the 50cm Novice Class.

The course then moved up to 80cm Intermediate, followed by an 80cm Intermediate Pairs Class, before finishing with the 90cm Open Class.

The 50cm Novice, 80cm Intermediate, 80cm Intermediate Pairs and 90cm Open classes were advertised as Eland Lodge 2027 qualifiers.

With classes ranging from introductory levels through to the larger 90cm course, the event provided an enjoyable day of competition in the East Yorkshire countryside.

Why Two-Way Radios Work So Well at Equestrian Events

Reliable communication is an important part of organising any large outdoor event.

At a horse trial, show or cross-country event, the organising team can be spread between the start and finish areas, course locations, entrances, parking areas and the main event control point.

Two-way radios give the team a simple way of staying connected without having to repeatedly make telephone calls.

Supporting Horse Shows and Equestrian Events Across Yorkshire

Equestrian events form an important part of the work we undertake at R & J PA Hire.

Over the years, we have supported horse shows, Point-to-Point meetings and other countryside events with combinations of:

  • Commentary units and commentary boxes
  • Outdoor PA systems
  • Radio microphones
  • Two-way radio hire
  • Distributed outdoor loudspeakers
  • Event communication equipment
  • Delivery, setup and collection
  • On-site technical support where required

Every event is different, which is why we tailor the equipment to the individual venue and the requirements of the organisers.

Sometimes an event needs a full outdoor PA system covering several areas, while another may simply require a commentary facility and a fleet of radios.

The Arnold Grange Hunter Trial was a good example of how a commentary unit combined with two-way radio communications can provide a practical solution for an outdoor sporting event.

Thank You to the Arnold Grange Hunter Trial Team

We would like to thank everyone involved with the Arnold Grange Hunter Trial 2026 for asking R & J PA Hire to be part of the event.

Events like this rely on a considerable amount of work behind the scenes from organisers, officials, volunteers and course staff, and it was a pleasure to provide the commentary facility and radio communications for the day.

We hope everyone involved had an enjoyable and successful event.
