Yorkshire Shooting Show & Game Fair, Doncaster Racecourse 2025
The Yorkshire Shooting Show & Game Fair 2025 brought two action-packed days of countryside displays, live demonstrations, and expert talks to Doncaster Racecourse over the weekend of Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September. Thousands of visitors enjoyed a celebration of country life, field sports, and rural traditions, with a packed timetable running from morning until evening.
At R & J PA Hire, we were proud to play a central role in the event, supplying professional PA systems, commentary, and sound solutions across several areas of the showground. From the busy Activity Arena to the BASC stand and even a live talk with an ex-SAS soldier, our equipment and expertise ensured every word, demonstration, and announcement was heard clearly by the crowds.
Supporting the Activity Arena
The Activity Arena was one of the main attractions of the weekend, showcasing a wide variety of demonstrations and displays. As the commentator for the arena, I had the privilege of keeping the audience informed and entertained throughout the day.
From gundog training demonstrations with experts such as Darren Kirk of Kirkbourne Spaniels, to ferret racing, falconry, and countryside skills, the arena was a constant hub of energy. Clear, reliable audio was essential to engage the crowd, deliver safety instructions, and highlight the timetable of events.
Our trackside PA system was designed for full coverage of the arena area, using weather-resistant loudspeakers and a digital mixing desk to balance commentary, background music, and live demonstrations. With so many visitors moving in and out of the stands, clarity was vital — and feedback from both the organisers and audience confirmed that the system performed flawlessly all weekend.
BASC Stand – Food Demonstrations
The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) stand was another highlight of the Game Fair. Throughout both days, visitors enjoyed live cooking demonstrations by a variety of chefs and countryside cooks, each showcasing delicious recipes using game meat.
To support these demonstrations, we provided a compact PA system tailored for the stand area. This smaller setup allowed chefs to explain their methods and engage with the audience without overpowering nearby trade stands. By keeping the sound localised yet crystal clear, we helped create an inviting and interactive environment for visitors.
Special Guest – Pete Winner (Ex-SAS)
One of the most talked-about features of the weekend was the appearance of Pete Winner, the former SAS soldier who played a pivotal role in the dramatic Iranian Embassy Siege in London in 1980.
Pete delivered gripping talks on both days, sharing his first-hand experiences of one of the most iconic counter-terrorism operations in British history. For these sessions, we supplied additional PA equipment to ensure his voice carried across the venue. With large crowds gathering to hear his stories, having a reliable sound setup was essential in maintaining focus and atmosphere during his presentation.
Main PA Across Doncaster Racecourse
In addition to the arena and stand systems, R & J PA Hire also provided the main PA system across Doncaster Racecourse. This allowed organisers to keep visitors updated with site-wide announcements, safety information, and timetable changes across the entire venue.
Coordinating multiple audio zones across a venue as large as Doncaster Racecourse requires careful planning and professional equipment.
