R & J PA Hire provided audio and tie-clip mics at Hull Minster’s Heritage Open Days, bringing history to life across East Yorkshire.
On the 12th and 13th of September 2025, Hull Minster opened its doors for a spectacular weekend of history, heritage, and live re-enactments as part of the Heritage Open Days festival. Running from 10am to 4pm each day, this year’s theme — “Dead… But Not Forgotten” — brought centuries of fascinating local history back to life inside one of East Yorkshire’s most iconic landmarks.
At R & J PA Hire, we were proud to provide the audio systems and tie-clip microphones that helped make this immersive experience possible. Ensuring that every story could be heard clearly, from the quietest whisper to the most dramatic declaration, was our key role in supporting this memorable event.
Bringing History to Life with Clear Audio 🎙️
Inside the magnificent surroundings of Hull Minster, visitors were greeted by characters from across the centuries — each with their own intriguing tales to tell. Our team supplied and set up discreet tie-clip microphones for the actors, along with a high-quality portable PA system to project their voices throughout the building without disturbing the natural acoustics of the Minster.
The result was crystal-clear storytelling that reached every visitor, from the front pews to the back of the nave. With hundreds of people coming and going throughout the weekend, this reliable sound setup ensured that no one missed a moment of the performance.
We take pride in making sure that events like this run smoothly, especially in venues where acoustics and clarity are vital. Heritage spaces often present challenges for sound systems due to echoes and stone architecture — but with the right planning and equipment, we can deliver audio that enhances the atmosphere rather than disrupting it.
Meet the Characters of Hull Minster’s Past
The weekend featured an engaging line-up of historical figures, each brought to life by talented local performers:
- 👨⚕️ John Alderson — A Victorian physician dedicated to public health and scientific progress.
- 👒 Agnes Bedford — A savvy medieval woman who famously outlived three husbands (and knew exactly what she was doing!).
- 💍 Eleanor & George Crowle — A wealthy merchant couple from the 1600s with tales of trade, triumph, and a few secrets…
Live performances ran throughout both days, filling the Minster with voices from centuries gone by. Visitors were encouraged to ask questions, interact with the characters, and explore the history of this remarkable building from a completely new perspective.
