It has been an exceptionally busy few weeks for the team at R & J PA Hire, with our equipment travelling from East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire right down to the Cotswolds.
We have supported six very different outdoor events, including agricultural shows, a major national farming event, a classic vehicle run, tractor pulling and a cycling festival.
Although every event presented different requirements, the aim remained the same: to provide clear, reliable sound and effective communication for organisers, commentators, competitors and visitors.
Our recent events included:

Cereals 2026 at Diddly Squat Farm
Our busiest period began with a journey from East Yorkshire to the Cotswolds for Cereals 2026, held at Diddly Squat Farm near Chipping Norton.
Cereals is one of the UK’s leading agricultural events, bringing together farmers, machinery manufacturers, agricultural businesses and industry professionals.
R & J PA Hire was responsible for providing sound around the Syngenta and CropLife Sprays and Sprayers Arena.
This included a distributed outdoor speaker system positioned around the large demonstration area, along with a professional commentary unit for the arena team.
The system needed to deliver clear speech across a wide outdoor space while demonstrations, machinery and visitor activity were taking place.
We also supplied two-way radios to members of the wider sound production crew, allowing teams working around the event site to remain in contact.
The first day brought relatively good conditions, but the second day was a very different experience, with rain, mud and challenging ground conditions. Despite the weather, the equipment continued operating and the arena programme carried on.
It was a major logistical job involving several days away, but we were proud to support such a high-profile agricultural event.
Yorkshire Cycle Festival at Driffield Showground
Our next event brought us back to East Yorkshire for the Yorkshire Cycle Festival at Driffield Showground.
The festival brought together cyclists, clubs, specialist traders and enthusiasts for a full weekend of cycling activities, displays and social events.
A large showground requires carefully positioned sound equipment so that announcements can be heard without making individual areas unnecessarily loud.
Our event sound support helped organisers communicate with visitors and keep activities running smoothly throughout the weekend.
It was great to support a new event at Driffield Showground and to see so many different parts of the cycling community coming together in East Yorkshire.
The East Coast Run at Sewerby
We were also positioned at Sewerby for the finish of the annual East Coast Run, organised by the East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club.
The event began at East Park in Hull before a fantastic selection of classic and historic vehicles travelled to the event field at Sewerby.
Our PA system was installed at the Sewerby end of the run, helping with announcements and providing sound as the vehicles arrived.
Events involving large numbers of vehicles and visitors need clear announcements to help direct participants, welcome arrivals and keep the public informed.
The impressive collection included classic cars, buses, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and other historic transport.
With the clifftop location and a fantastic range of vehicles on display, it was another enjoyable East Yorkshire event for the team.
Supporting Eastrington Show
We then returned to the agricultural show circuit for Eastrington Show, a long-established community event held at the village playing fields.
The show included livestock, equestrian classes, vintage vehicles, children’s activities, entertainment and competitions taking place across several areas.
Rural shows often have several activities happening at the same time, making reliable sound and communication equipment an important part of the event.
Our equipment helped support showground announcements, ring activities and communication between members of the organising team.
It was great to be back supporting this traditional East Yorkshire agricultural show and helping the committee deliver another successful day for the local community.
North Yorkshire County Agricultural Show
The following day took us to Otterington Hall near Northallerton for the North Yorkshire County Agricultural Show.
For this event, we supplied sound equipment for the main show ring and the equestrian areas, helping spectators follow the different classes, demonstrations and presentations taking place throughout the day.
A separate commentary position was also provided for the showjumping area, complete with amplification and speakers.
Alongside supplying the equipment, we were involved with commentary in the main ring, introducing attractions and helping keep the programme moving.
We also supplied two-way radios to the event team. These provided reliable communication between organisers, ring officials and other members of staff working across the large showground.
Combining PA systems, commentary facilities and radio communications gives event organisers a complete solution rather than having to arrange each service separately.
Emley Moor Motor and Steam Transport Rally
Our run of events continued at the Emley Moor Motor and Steam Transport Rally, where visitors enjoyed a weekend of vintage machinery, classic vehicles, steam engines and tractor pulling.
We provided sound for both the tractor pulling track and the top arena.
The tractor pulling required powerful and clear commentary so spectators could follow the action while engines and machinery were running.
Over in the top arena, the PA system was used for commentary, announcements and information during the displays of classic vehicles, tractors and steam engines.
Two-way radios were also supplied to help the event team communicate between the different areas of the site.
The tractor pulling created plenty of noise, power and trackside action, and we managed to capture some short video footage from beside the pulling track.
It was an excellent event to finish another extremely busy weekend.
Reliable Sound in Changing Outdoor Conditions
These events demonstrate the variety of work undertaken by R & J PA Hire.
During just a few weeks, our systems were used at:
- A national agricultural event
- Agricultural and county shows
- A classic vehicle run
- A cycling festival
- A tractor pulling and steam rally
Each venue required a different approach.
Some needed sound distributed over a very large area, while others required separate systems for several show rings. Some events needed commentary units and radio microphones, while others also required two-way radios for organisers and production teams.
Outdoor events can bring changing weather, background noise, large crowds and long distances between working areas. Careful planning and suitable professional equipment are therefore essential.
